A section of the M61 was closed while police continued their search for a missing man from Bamber Bridge.
The M61 was closed between the M65 and M6 from around 9pm on Thursday evening (22 July) with traffic diverted due to what National Highways: North West described as a ‘police incident’.
But the closure was to facilitate the search efforts for missing man David Henry, 45, who has been missing since Wednesday, 15 July.
A spokesperson for police said: “The motorway was closed as part of our search enquiries for David Henry who is missing from home.
“He remains missing and our enquiries to find him are ongoing.”
Both police and his family are very concerned for his welfare. He is known to have links to Preston, Leyland, Chorley and elsewhere across South Ribble.
Police said in an appeal earlier this week: “To remind you: David is 6ft 2in, of an average to medium build and has tattoos on his arm. He was last seen wearing the clothing in this footage: a dark coloured top, dark shorts and sunglasses. He is carrying a dark backpack and was riding his black e-bike.
“David – if you are seeing our appeals, please get in touch with us, or your loved ones, and let us all know you are ok.
“If you see David please call 999 straight away. For non-immediate sightings or if you think you have captured footage of David on his e-bike please call 101 and quote log 533 of 17th July 2026.”
