North East Mayor Kim McGuinness has announced a pioneering new delivery partnership with Homes England to help accelerate growth and housebuilding across the region.
The enhanced partnership is designed to speed up the delivery of major regeneration, housing and infrastructure projects across the North East.
At the heart of the partnership is the creation of a joint Major Projects Delivery Unit – one of the first arrangements of its kind in England and the first of its scale in the North East. The unit will bring together expertise, resources and leadership from the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, Homes England and local authority partners to unlock complex sites, support major developments and drive forward the region’s growth ambitions.
The agreement builds on Mayor Kim’s commitment to increase housebuilding, unlock disused brownfield land and bring forward transformative developments that support economic growth, create jobs and deliver more social and affordable housing schemes.
The new approach will establish a joint delivery unit with shared project oversight, joint working arrangements and dedicated specialist support to help accelerate housing and regeneration schemes across the region. Through the new partnership, key brownfields sites, as well as the region’s three Mayoral Development Zones, will be accelerated to drive local growth and regeneration.
North East Mayor Kim McGuinness said:

“That includes 15,000 new affordable homes in the next decade to tackle the housing crisis, and ensure a safe, secure and affordable home is within reach for everyone.
“We’re getting on with building more homes, unlocking stalled sites, and working across the region to tackle homelessness, and this new joint-approach will only help drive that further and faster.”
