One of the worst stretches of pothole-riddled roads in Preston has seen repairs.

Lancashire County Council’s contractors were out during Friday (10 July) to patch up part of Ribbleton Avenue.

The stretch of the busy route from Cromwell Road to Arnold Close near the Tudor House Day Nursery has regularly been referenced as one of most uneven driving surfaces and making a very uncomfortable ride for bus passengers too.

St Matthew’s ward city councillor Suleman Sarwar was overjoyed to see works finally being done.

He shared pictures of the Friday evening works but questioned why it had taken so long to be done.

The Labour councillor said: “Like many others, I’ve raised the condition of this road on numerous occasions over the past year, so it’s great to see this finally being delivered. Given the volume of traffic using this route every day, it should have been a priority much sooner.”

He said he’d now like to see the stretch of Ribbleton Lane from Machine Mart to Skeffington Road resurfaced.

The county council has been under-fire over its pothole repair strategy and road resurfacing priorities, with earlier this year the A6 through Fulwood being slammed as ‘dangerous’ while nearby side streets were being resurfaced. Repairs were undertaken after councillors of different political colours united to point out the issue.

A programme of surface dressing works are currently taking place across Preston and neighbouring areas which the county council claims is a more efficient and long-term way of protecting the city’s roads from potholes.
