Stannah lifts keep people and goods moving every day. Now they’re getting mobile themselves– supporting charities across the UK.
The Gateshead service branch for Stannah Lifts Distribution and Service (LD&S) takes on the company’s incredible 4,000-mile charity cycling challenge, raising £380 for their chosen charity, Alice House Hospice, which provides care and support to people affected by life-limiting illnesses. With Stannah match funding, this brings the total to £760.
Together, over 700 colleagues across 11 service branches will collectively cycle one full lap of Britain by clocking up the miles on an indoor exercise bike that will travel between each location – 4,000 miles, the equivalent of 1.28 million lift journeys – keeping Britain moving in more ways than one!
Colleagues at the Gateshead branch have cycled an impressive 335.42 miles, with just over 710.05 miles remaining to reach the final target.
Every mile cycled reflects a shared commitment to raising funds for the independent charity based in Hartlepool. Alice House Hospice was chosen by Stannah’s employees in recognition of the specialist care and compassionate support it provides to people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, helping them to live as comfortably and with dignity as possible.

“The hospice is well known in Hartlepool for the fantastic work they do looking after people and their families in a time of need. I nominated this charity because of the exceptional care they gave my wife’s grandfather before he passed. It was a great benefit to our family knowing that the little time he had left was made better by the lovely staff. Several people I know have also benefited from the services they provide, which rely massively on charitable donations to continue what they do. I pedalled as far as my little legs allowed me during our charity cycle challenge to raise vital funds for the hospice.”

The exercise bike will now travel to the Stannah’s Mansfield branch, where colleagues will have two weeks to complete their mileage target and raise funds for a local charity before moving on to the next location, mapping a virtual route around Great Britain.
Ultimately, this nationwide challenge is about far more than tallying up miles. It’s about unity, connection, wellbeing and giving back to communities across the country — all while celebrating the engineering and service teams who keep Britain moving every day.
