Durrrllingggggs! Oh, you know we just had to start like this. How else would we announce Tony Umez, also known as Tonero Angel, also known as Durling, turning the big 6-0?
The veteran Nollywood actor is celebrating his 60th birthday today, and naturally, he marked the occasion in a look that feels very much like him. For his birthday portraits, Tony chose a white Etibo-inspired tunic, a patterned South-South wrapper and classic accessories, with touches of gold running through the look.
The long-sleeved white tunic is paired with a patterned wrapper tied around his waist, while a dark maroon textured scarf sits neatly around his collar. On his head, he wears a black velvet cap finished with gold embroidery, giving the traditional look a little extra detail without taking it too far.
Then there are the accessories: black rectangular glasses, a gold chain bracelet, a metallic gold wristwatch and his wedding band. He finishes everything with black velvet loafers featuring crown embroidery. Birthday boy, indeed.

But there is more to Tony Umez than the famous “Durling” nickname. Born in Ogidi, Anambra State, the actor has spent decades building a career in Nollywood, becoming particularly known for playing romantic leads and the charming, sometimes complicated love interest in Nigerian films. His screen career has made him one of the familiar faces of Nollywood’s older generation, with a filmography spanning romance, family dramas and stories about relationships.
Away from the screen, Tony is also a husband and father. He has been married to his wife, Patsy Umez, for more than 32 years, and the couple share children. His birthday message made it clear just how much his family means to him, as he thanked his wife for travelling with him through the years and described his children as part of what makes the journey special.
And perhaps that is what makes this birthday post particularly sweet. Rather than simply marking the milestone, Tony used the occasion to look back at the life he has built, giving thanks for his family, friendships, purpose and the opportunity to have spent so many years doing work he loves.
“My heart is full of gratitude,” he wrote, while looking ahead to the years still to come.
