A summer festival and bake off to support the work of a charity they’ve been doing for over 150 years takes place this weekend.

The event on Sunday (2 August) will include stalls, food, entertainment, games and more and a £3 entry fee for any baked item someone wants to submit for the bake off.

Galloways is a charity for visually impaired people and will be celebrating turning 160 next year in March.

David Bromilow, a volunteer and service user at Galloways, said: “Without Galloways I would feel isolated.

“They have created a sense of community and belonging, raised my self-esteem and improved my mental wellbeing.

“We share ideas about accessibility and take part in lots of social groups and activities.”

Sunday’s event will take place from 11am-3pm at Galloways in Penwortham, PR1 0LS.

A great prize is promised for the winner of the ‘Galloways Bake Off’ at the event.

Charlotte Hunter, fundraiser and events coordinator, said: “Events like this are essential to Galloways.

“Every pound raised helps us continue supporting people living with sight loss, but they’re equally important for raising awareness of who we are and the life-changing services we provide.

“We want everyone to know that whatever their experience of sight loss, they don’t have to face it alone.

“Seeing the impact Galloways has on people’s lives has been truly inspiring, and it’s something I’m proud to be part of.”
