New temporary public toilets open near Swansea seafront

Five temporary public toilets have been installed near Swansea seafront following the closure of the city’s civic centre.

The individual toilets are located in the upper car park next to the former civic centre and are available to visitors using Swansea Bay and the nearby beach.

They replace the public toilet facilities that were lost when the civic centre closed to the public.

Services previously based in the building, including Swansea’s central library, have moved to the new Y Storfa development in the city centre.

Long-term plans are being developed for the regeneration of the civic centre site. Swansea Council and regeneration partner Urban Splash are progressing proposals that include apartments, commercial units and visitor attractions.

Cyril Anderson, Cabinet Member for Community, said: “Although the civic centre is now closed to the public, it’s important to acknowledge that the beach area and foreshore directly outside the building is still well used, especially during the warmer summer months.

“The loss of public toilets at the civic centre has led to the council installing a number of toilets at the site which the public can access while out and about.

“The intention is to keep these new facilities in place while the regeneration plans for the civic centre progress.”

The temporary toilets do not include Changing Places facilities.

However, the council has confirmed that Changing Places facilities are available nearby at the Guildhall, the LC, Swansea Bus Station, the National Waterfront Museum and the Secret Beach Bar.
