Police identified the man accused of opening fire Saturday at a recently opened In-N-Out Burger location in Twin Falls, Idaho, and revealed he was subdued by an off-duty state trooper and an armed citizen who returned fire.
The suspected shooter, identified as Chad Williams, 24, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after fatally shooting an employee and a customer, according to Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks.
Authorities believe Williams acted alone in the attack. He was found dead near the restaurant.
“We want to take a moment and commend the actions of the off-duty officer and the citizen and their heroic action to stop this incident,” Hicks said during a news conference Sunday. “We believe their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties.”
Three people died, and seven others were wounded in the shootout, city spokesperson Josh Palmer previously said.
Authorities said two of the injured victims have been released from the hospital, while three are in stable condition and two remain in critical condition.
