Sir Bobby Robson launched his Foundation in 2008 to help find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer.
The work funded by The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation directly benefits cancer patients in the North East and Cumbria, while also playing an important role in the international fight against the disease. Its support includes funding cutting-edge cancer treatment, innovative cancer support services and clinical trials of new drugs at the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre.
Sir Bobby described his charity as his “last and greatest team.” He had no idea how large his team would grow, or how much it would go on to achieve.
Managed within Newcastle Hospitals Charity, the Foundation works within the NHS and in partnership with other leading charities and organisations.
Newcastle Hospitals and The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity, are currently building a world-leading research and treatment facility next to the Northern Centre for Cancer Care at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
The Sir Bobby Robson Institute will pioneer more ground-breaking innovation in cancer treatment and significantly increase the number of clinical trials available for patients across the North East, north Cumbria and North Yorkshire.
Construction is being funded by The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, with more than £28 million already raised by supporters and generous founding donors, and a fundraising campaign set to be launched to raise the final funds needed for the project.
