Aberglasney Gardens is celebrating a bumper apple harvest with a special event featuring apple pressing, live music, crafts and family activities.
Apple Day will take place on Sunday, October 4, with visitors invited to bring along their own apples and containers to turn their fruit into fresh juice to take home for free.
The Dinefwr Orchardeers will be on hand to help visitors press their apples, while experts will also offer apple identification and advice to those interested in growing their own fruit.
The harvest celebration will feature a range of activities throughout the day, including candle making, decoration painting, outdoor games and a children’s ‘animals of autumn’ trail around the gardens.
Pembrokeshire Craft Makers will also be exhibiting in the mansion.
Local singer and guitarist Dylan Carmichael, from Carmarthen, will provide live music in the Cloister Garden between 11am and 1pm, bringing acoustic entertainment to the event.
Helen Scutt, Aberglasney Gardens’ Director, said, “Come along and celebrate this year’s bumper harvest of apples with us – bring your own apples to turn them into juice for free, learn all about the different apple varieties, enjoy a walk around our Kitchen Garden and sample our homemade apple-based products in our Tearooms. Special thank you to the Dinefwr Orchardeers for helping us produce our own apple juice and cider and offering to help our visitors make their own juice on Apple Day.”
The celebrations will extend to Aberglasney’s Tearooms, where a selection of apple-based dishes will be served.
These will include cake made using apples grown in the gardens, as well as homemade soups featuring vegetables harvested from the Kitchen Garden.
The Dinefwr Orchardeers have also been using apples grown in Aberglasney’s Kitchen Gardens to make apple juice and cider, which visitors will be able to buy during the event.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to taste Aberglasney’s new autumn foraged botanicals gin, Hydref, which will be available to purchase on Apple Day.
The gardens will be open from 10am until 6pm on Sunday, October 4, with the Apple Day harvest activities running between 11am and 3pm.
Entry costs £10 for adults, while Aberglasney members can attend Apple Day for free. Children aged 16 and under also receive free entry to Aberglasney.
