Hundreds of passengers have been left stranded at Jakarta’s main airport after an eruption of Indonesia’s Anak Krakatau volcano forced authorities to suspend flight operations because of volcanic ash.
Many passengers complained they had not been notified of the cancellations in advance.
The airport suspended operations after ash from the volcano, which has been erupting since late Friday, was detected over the area.
Indonesia’s transportation ministry said the shutdown affected 209 flights, including several international services.
Eloann Tasset, a French national stuck at the airport, says: “Honestly, I don’t know. I think I will try to talk to somebody, maybe to have new information. I don’t know. And if they told me that the flight was cancelled, I think I’m going to try to find a hotel in Jakarta and come tomorrow.”
