The organiser of Ingoma Festival that was held in eMpangeni, north of KwaZulu Natal, has expressed shock and sadness following the crash that claimed the lives of 11 participants.
The crash, involving a minibus taxi, occurred on the N2 in KwaManandi, Mtubatuba, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Six of the deceased were burnt beyond recognition while nine others sustained burn wounds.
Event organiser Velempini Khoza popularly known as “Sigwebosentambo” explains, “As I was hosting an event yesterday, there were traditional lead singers popular known as Amagoso from various places who were in attendance some of them were from Mtubatuba. This morning I was told that they were involved in an accident. I am in complete disbelief. Eleven of ours have passed away and nine others are in a critical condition in hospital. I am so devastated. I would like to express my deepest condolences to the affected families.”
