Lord Provost Robert Aldridge will award prizes at the Edinburgh & Lothians Miniature Railway Club (ELMRC) exhibition at George Watson’s College. Taking place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September 2026, this represents the largest railway modelling event ever held in Edinburgh. It is the third annual show to be held by the club at that venue.
This year’s special exhibition will welcome people of all ages to celebrate the club’s 75th Anniversary and experience the world of miniature railways. The event will illustrate the club’s rich history and many decades of dedication to the world of railway modelling.
ELMRC was founded in 1951 and since then has provided a venue for hobbyists with much experience and none to gather, share knowledge, showcase their skills, and be amongst a like minded community. Over the past 75 years, the club has grown significantly, reflecting increasing interest and participation in this beloved hobby. It now occupies bespoke clubrooms on Lothian Road and is open to all.
Visitors to the exhibition can expect layouts in different scales and time periods, alongside demonstrations of the skills involved. There will be 20 layouts, together with traders and several modelling and railway heritage organisations from around Scotland and the UK. ELMRC will be displaying two layouts – Nonndorf, a member’s computer-operated construction representing a branch line of Austrian Federal Railways, and Dundreich, a much-prized and historic design by P. D. Hancock, an internationally-respected railway modeller and one of the club’s founding members. These layouts showcase both a long history and continuing development of the hobby.
