As days wind down to local government elections, African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says they have done all they could to have a successful campaign.

This despite the party having met some challenges along the way resulting in having to resort to the Constitutional Court, to have over a hundred candidates on the voting ballot.

Mbalula was speaking in Duncan Village in the Eastern Cape where he was engaging communities ahead of the elections.

Preparations for the ANC to hold its Siyanqoba Rally on Sunday are well under way. It will be at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane where party President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address.

The party says it has intensified its election campaign to ensure it emerges victorious during the elections.

“We will campaign until the end therefore a vote is not a given. We still need to talk to people and then you talk to them about your own message. We are not concerned about other parties as much as they are concerned about us. That’s fine we are the incumbent. We are concerned about what we tell the people,” says Mbalula.

Mbalula has maintained that service delivery related challenges such as water provision in the province are receiving attention.

“Water provision in the next couple of months to come will return to normal because of the work that is undertaken by the Department and Local Municipalities in building infrastructure,” Mbalula adds.

The party is confident that it will retain the Buffalo City Metro with an increased number of seats from the 61 it is currently occupying.
