An upcoming volunteer recruitment fair is connecting charitable organisations with Gateshead residents to showcase valuable volunteering opportunities in the area.
The Gateshead Volunteer Recruitment Fair, which is taking place between 10:00am – 1.00pm on 13 October 2026 at Gateshead Leisure Centre, will feature more than 25 local charitable organisations; all looking for volunteers to help support their valuable services.
The free event has been organised by Harley Kuyck-Cohen of Gateshead Volunteer Centre, part of Connected Voice, and is open to people of all backgrounds, interests and abilities. Attendees do not need to book for this event and can stay for as long or as little as they like.
Speaking about the event, Harley said:
“Gateshead is a brilliant place to volunteer; there are so many varied opportunities to suit all interests. Our annual Gateshead Volunteer Recruitment Fair is the place to be for anyone looking to connect with their community, develop their skills into employment, or focus on their mental and physical health. Volunteering can support all of these goals, and more.”
The event is also raising awareness of the accessibility of volunteering. Harley added:
“Gateshead Volunteer Centre champions and promotes accessible opportunities for residents with barriers across the borough. Through our flagship Support into Volunteering service, we connect residents with additional needs into volunteering roles that match their skills, interests and support needs.”
“At the Fair, our stall holders will happily chat to visitors about how they can be supported to volunteer. Guests will also be able to find our Gateshead Volunteer Centre stall there too, where we can help with a self-referral.”
From April 2025 to March 2026, Gateshead Volunteer Centre processed over 930 enquiries from local residents for volunteer roles featured on the OurGateshead community website. Additionally, they supported 42 residents with additional needs and multiple barriers into volunteer opportunities.
