Wales is set for a wet and windy start to the week, with heavy rain and coastal gales forecast before conditions become more settled towards the end of October.
The Met Office has warned that rain will persist across much of Wales on Monday (26 October), with some heavy downpours expected during the morning.
Conditions should gradually improve through the afternoon as the rain becomes lighter and more patchy, although strengthening winds could bring gales to coastal areas later in the day.
Temperatures are expected to reach a relatively mild 16°C.
Heavy rain and strong winds overnight
Despite a mostly dry evening on Monday, another spell of heavy rain is expected to sweep across Wales overnight.
The Met Office says the band of rain will move through quickly, clearing the country by dawn on Tuesday.
However, very strong winds are also forecast, with coastal areas particularly exposed to gale-force conditions.
Overnight temperatures are expected to fall to around 8°C.
Flood alerts are also in force for parts of Wales, according to Natural Resources Wales, with residents advised to keep an eye on the latest information as further rainfall moves across the country.
Brighter conditions expected on Tuesday
Tuesday (27 October) should bring a noticeable improvement, with plenty of sunny spells and only isolated showers.
It will remain breezy, particularly during the morning, making conditions feel fresher despite the brighter skies.
Winds are expected to ease gradually through the afternoon, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 14°C.
What is the weather forecast for the rest of the week?
The outlook for Wednesday through to Friday suggests Wales will see a more settled spell of weather, although some showers and cloud are still expected.
Wednesday (28 October) will begin with showers in places before conditions turn drier and brighter during the afternoon.
Thursday (29 October) is expected to offer some of the more pleasant weather of the week. Any overnight fog patches should gradually clear, leaving sunny spells and light winds across Wales.
By Friday (30 October), cloud is forecast to build once again, although the Met Office has not indicated a return to the heavy rain and strong winds expected at the beginning of the week.
The overall outlook suggests that, while the October half-term holiday will begin on a rather unsettled note, families planning outdoor activities later in the week could benefit from improving conditions.
