The Lesotho Highlands Water Project marks 40 years as one of the region’s most significant cross-border water infrastructure partnerships between Lesotho and South Africa.

The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHA) is holding a three-day stakeholders’ conference under the theme “Reflection, Accountability and Shared Understanding”.

With just a decade remaining before its planned completion, Lesotho’s Minister of Natural Resources, Mohlomi Moleko said that the conference is not only celebrating achievements but also providing a platform for honest reflection and forward-looking discussions.

“It is therefore fitting that as we commemorate this remarkable milestone, we do so through meaningful dialogue, reflection and engagement with our valued stakeholders. Over the last 40 years, the LHA has evolved from an ambitious vision into one of Africa’s most significant water resources and infrastructure development institutions.”

While the project has largely been hailed as a success, Lesotho Highlands Development Authority CEO, Tente Tente admitted it has also faced challenges.

“As we reflect on the project’s journey, our task is to ensure that the next chapter creates a lasting value to the stakeholders. The legacy we build from here depends on the decisions we make together, our commitment and determination to act on them.”

Guests from the region and beyond will join the celebrations.
