Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has condemned a suspected gang-related shooting in Steenberg on the Cape Flats, which left five people dead and three others wounded.
Gunmen reportedly stormed a home and opened fire on the victims. Detectives from the Anti-Gang Unit have launched a manhunt for the gunmen.
Marais has called on police to intensify intelligence-driven operations targeting gang leaders and networks supplying illegal firearms and ammunition.
He says, “No community should have to endure such senseless bloodshed or live in constant fear for their safety. We cannot allow criminals to terrorise our communities. The time for decisive, sustained action against gangs is now.”
