The uMkhonto weSizwe Party’s (MK Party) First Deputy President Duduzane Zuma says his father and party leader, former President Jacob Zuma will return to the campaign trail before the November 4th local government elections (LGE) following a routine medical check-up.
Duduzane was addressing hundreds of party supporters and members of the community at a mini rally in Umgababa in the south coast of Durban.
He says the past two weeks have been difficult for the family amid reports about his father’s health. However, he has expressed confidence that his father will resume his duties soon adding they are confident that the party will do well at the local poll and that Zuma will become South Africa’s president again in 2029.
“We are going to win that two third majority starting off in eThekwini and other municipalities on our way to the national votes in 2029, when the MKP takes over its rightful place as we will be the head of government. Do you know who the president in 2029 is going to be? Baba Jacob Zuma, in 2029 there will be a gentleman that everyone will be surprised by who they’ve written off, who they have arrested, or they have disrespected, who they have insulted. They even killed him in the media, they’ve killed him financially but Jacob Zuma will return. It will be something beautiful he is coming back,” adds Duduzani Zuma.
Meanwhile, the Youth League is calling the party’s mayoral candidate for eThekwini Municipality, Mxolisi Phakathi to eradicate drugs and address the problem of hijacked buildings in Durban’s CBD if elected in the November 4th local government elections.
The party’s eThekwini elections convenor Smanga Nyuswa says the proliferation of hijacked buildings is contributing to the deterioration of the inner city.
While municipal officials say efforts to reclaim illegally occupied buildings and combat criminal activity have been intensified, Nyuswa believes more decisive action is needed to address the problem.
“If comrade Phakathi would come in as the mayor of eThekwini, he will make sure that our city is safe and there are no drugs being sold. We know that the drugs lords, once they are chased away from our city we won’t even have to deal with the runners who are in our townships. We need to get rid of the people who are running those hijacked buildings, crippling our city.”
