Construction of the £23.5 million Hallmark Melrose Grange care home in St Mellons, Cardiff, has reached the topping-out stage.
Hallmark Luxury Care Homes says the 85-bed home on Cypress Drive will be Cardiff’s first fully electric care home. It will use air source heat pumps and photovoltaic (PV) panels for heating, cooling and hot water, and will provide residential, nursing and dementia care.
The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Michael Michael, joined Hallmark’s senior leadership team and members of the construction team to mark the milestone.
He said: “It is fantastic to see Hallmark Melrose Grange reaching this important stage in its development. This £23.5 million investment will bring a new care home to St Mellons, creating local jobs and providing high-quality care for older people in our community. I’m pleased to be here to celebrate with everyone involved in bringing the project to life.”
The site will include a bat house, dormouse corridor and wildflower garden. Facilities for residents will include a café, hair salon, therapy room and cinema, a dementia-friendly garden and a fruit and vegetable garden.
Melrose Grange will be Hallmark’s fifth home in Cardiff. Its existing homes in the city include nearby Penylan House, acquired in 2024, and Ty Enfys.
Hallmark Luxury Care Homes CEO Nye Brown said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Melrose Grange to St Mellons. Building on our decades of experience caring for people in Cardiff, we want to create a home where residents feel valued, maintain their independence and have the opportunity to thrive.”
The home is being built by Cardiff-based Langstone Construction. It will create 115 local jobs and is scheduled to welcome its first residents in 2027.
