African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, says an unsuccessful outcome in their Constitutional Court appeal regarding the party’s PR candidate list submission would have a devastating impact on the party’s performance in the local government elections.
Mbalula was speaking to the SABC on the sidelines of the party’s National Working Committee Meeting in KuGompo City in the Eastern Cape.
There are reports of some dissension in the party over the PR list issue. However, Mbalula says the ANC remains intact and more than ready to contest the upcoming local government elections and is optimistic that it will be victorious.
“We do have challenges that are normal like anywhere else, but they become unique in the Eastern Cape because of litigation, and the litigants have sort of been successful in terms of their litigation in the province. But we are dealing with those matters. The projection that there is almost a state of collapse and chaos in the province is far from the truth,” says Mbalula.
