The United States has openly called on Cubans to collaborate with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to bring about political change on the island nation.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, posting on X, says the time has come for Cubans dissatisfied with their government to act.

His extraordinary appeal comes as President Donald Trump again raised the prospect of military intervention in Cuba, suggesting American warships returning from the war with Iran could be deployed off its coast.

Havana has condemned the threats.

The American intelligence agency has followed up with a Spanish-language video explaining how potential informants could make contact.

Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío referred to the initiative as a sign of American desperation.

The developments follow President Trump’s suggestion at a campaign rally in Florida on Friday, that American warships could stop off Cuba’s coast after operations against Iran.
