Vehicle tracking data is being examined in the trial into the murders of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Cartrack expert Carel Dreyer Rothmann told the Durban High Court that GPS data placed a grey Volkswagen Polo near a hotel in Umhlanga and later on Florida Road, where Forbes and Motsoane were shot dead.

State prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba presented tracking records showing the vehicle on Florida Road between 9:10pm and 10.24pm. The court also heard that another hired light motor vehicle placed on scene had similar routes and ignition times, suggesting the vehicles may have been following each other.

Rothmann says they have seen this footage before but they need to be sure.

“So, this is page 10, it’s the same location just looking at a different angle. The Polo position is there, the hotel is on the right, however, I do want to point out that the satellite photo is not showing the hotel because the image taken is from 2014.”
