Chidinma was the last woman standing in season 12 of the Gulder Ultimate Search, Age of Craftsmanship. For her, however, it wasn’t something too special. Her goal from the start was to be the ultimate woman, and anything short of that was a bit of a disappointment, she toldNetng.
“I did not go into Gulder Ultimate Search to be the last woman standing; I went there to win.”
Since the inception of the show, no woman has won it. Chidinma got into the top four before she was evicted. Although she got a chance to return to the show for a shot in the final after being voted back in by the fans, she could not make it after she came down with an illness.
Chidinma was slightly intimidated when she got to the Enugu regional selection and saw more athletic ladies. Her small frame, however belied strong determination, something she told Netng kept her on.
“I knew if I could get to the swimming stage of the selection process, I would definitely get into the jungle. I have been swimming in the village since I was five years old, and it was something I knew would give me an edge. When I go to that stage, I knew I had done enough to get in.”
For Chidinma, getting into the jungle was a dream come true as she applied seven years ago. However, the selection process coincided with her examination, and she could not make it. Since then, she had been on the lookout for the survival reality Tv show.
Shortly after getting into the jungle, Chidinma was quick to assert her no-nonsense stance there, reminding the men that the women were worthy of being there as all of them.
“I used to tell the men that all the four women that made it into the jungle were worthy of being there and deserve the same respect. They did not take us seriously until all four ladies made it into the top 10.”
Chidirim described her participation in the show as a success despite not winning it. She said making it into the jungle out of 20,000 applicants was itself a reward for her hard work. She has now set her sight on making the best use of the platform by starting a foundation that will focus on women empowerment, particularly young girls.
“Our society already places limitations on women, so it is important to rise from it. I want to provide opportunities that will allow women to rise above these sentiments.”
