For the final audition day, Omawunmi, the runner up of West Africa Idol in 2007, joined Obi Asika and D’banj for judges duty.
The latest episode of the Nigerian idol began with Kenneth, the contortionist bending his body into different shapes on stage before moving to the day’s business. He sang Hallo by Beyonce. Although he got a no from Obi Asika, a yes from the other two judges earned him a golden ticket to the next round.
Tasheyon Richie sang his own song titled I’m Free but did not impress the judges. D’banj humorously said: “You are not free with the kind of song you sang.” Asika told him he lacked the voice, and he got three nos.
Collins Bernand got three yeses for his beautiful singing, becoming the 27th golden ticket winner. He dedicated it to his mother and sister. Ultimately, 30 people got golden tickets for day 2.
Millionaire (Yes, that’s his name) sang Jealous by Labrinth and got a golden ticket. D’banj advised him to spray cash anytime he appears on stage to sing, considering his name.
Ceejay Fabulouz sang Easy on Me by Adele. Asika said he loved his voice, earning a golden ticket en route.
Christopher won the heart of the judges with his strong musical display which he accompanied with a guitar which also earned him a golden ticket.
Jackson, who goes by the stage name Supernova played the accordion, rhythm ring and harmonica and combined the three to sing Nina Simone’s Feeling Good and connected it with James Brown’s I feel Good. The judges were not impressed, though, and he walked out empty-handed, apart from the three instruments, of course.
Lawal Abdulrahim gave a fuji rendition of Joe’s I wanna know. The judges found it humorous, but not enough o get a golden ticket, and he got three nos
30-year-old Romanus Ekwuruibe sang You raise me up. After his singing, D’banj asked him if he sang the song to his friends first before coming to Nigerian Idol and advised him to do so next time before he got three nos.
Saviour Eyo played his guitar to his singing, arresting the attention of the judges, who allowed him to sing for close to two minutes. The photo editor was given a round of applause when he was done and got commendation before picking his golden ticket.
Ochiora, a 27-year old, provided the first Country music at the audition. It was warming as the judges sang along to his guitar-accompanied rendition of Don William’s Loving you’s like coming home. He got a yes from D’banj, a no from Omawunmi and had to sweat for Asika’s decision to know whether he would be moving to the next round. He walked out of the stage ultimately with a golden ticket.
The last episode of the audition will be showing next week Sunday before those that got golden tickets will begin the grand competition.
