Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) returns as a week-long event for the eighth edition after a halt in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels, MultiChoice Group, announced on Thursday, March 17, 2022, that the award will run for a week, starting from Sunday, May 7, leading up to the awards night on May 14.
As movie lovers across Africa anticipate the reveal of the nominees for the 33 categories tonight by 2016 AMVCA winner (Best Actress in a Drama) Adesua Etomi-Wellington alongside actor Daniel Etim-Effiong, here’s how to watch the unveiling.
The nomination show will be live on the following Africa Magic Channels on DStv and GOtv from 9 pm (WAT).
- Africa Magic Showcase (DStv channel 151)
- Africa Magic Epic (DStv channel 152 and GOtv channel 9)
- Africa Magic Family (DStv channel 154 and GOtv channel 2)
- Africa Magic World ( DStv channel 155 and GOtv channel 10)
- Africa Magic Urban (DStv channel 153)

Founded in 2013, AMVCA is an annual award presented by MultiChoice to celebrate African filmmakers, actors and technicians for their contribution to the success of the continent’s film and television industry.
For the eighth edition, MultiChoice also announced four new categories – the Best Online Social Content Creator, Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series, the return of Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series and Best Dressed Male and Female.
A total of 12 categories will be opened for public vote, while 22 will be determined by the AMVCA panel of judges headed by veteran filmmaker Victor Okhai, President of Director Guild of Nigeria.
