Music star Ayodeji ‘Wizkid’ Balogun has congratulated African music icon Angelique Kidjo on her fifth Grammy award after missing out on his two nominations at the 64th Grammys.

Wizkid’s song ‘Essence’ was nominated in the Best Global Music Performance category, while his album Made In Lagos: Deluxe Edition, Femi Kuti And Made Kuti’s Legacy +, Rocky Dawuni’s Voice Of Bunbon, Vol. 1, Daniel Ho & Friends’ East West Players Presents: Daniel Ho & Friends Live In Concert, were also nominated in the Best Global Music Album category won by Kidjo’s album ‘Mother Nature’ at the 64th GRAMMYs on Sunday, April 3, 2022.

While congratulating Kidjo and DJ Black Coffee of South Africa who became the first African DJ to win a Grammy, Wizkid also shared his thought about African music.

Wizkid’s reaction is coming two days after social media was thrown into a frenzy after Angelique Kidjo was announced the winner of the Best Global Music Album category as his fanbase, Wizkid FC, took to social media to express their disappointment and protest their idol’s loss.

The fanbase believes MIL which amassed over a billion streams in just a year and ‘Essence’ deserved to win in the two categories they were nominated.

He won his first Grammy last year in the Best Music Video category for his collaboration with Beyonce on Brown Skin Girl.
