Such a bizarre season for the Edmonton Oilers in 2021-22. Dave Tippett’s squad was hot out of the gate, then fell hard back to earth. After stumbling around for a while a little south of the playoff cut line, GM Ken Holland decided to make a coaching change. On Feb 10 he fired Tippett and defensive assistant Jim Playfair, replacing them with the men who had been doing those same jobs for the Oilers’ minor league affiliate in Bakersfield, namely Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson.
