MINNEAPOLIS — The workweek is kicking off with two Next Weather Alert days due to potentially dangerous heat.

Monday looks to be the peak of the heat, with temperatures flirting with triple digits, making it a Next Weather Alert day. The forecasted high in the Twin Cities is 98 degrees, and highs will be close to that across most of the state. Heat indices will be in the 100s. Overnight lows are expected to remain in the 70s for the next half week or so.

Parts of central, western and southern Minnesota are under a heat advisory.

Storms are moving through northern Minnesota Monday morning, and are expected to weaken as they head south. That system could bring a shower to the Twin Cities later in the morning.

Tuesday is also a Next Weather Alert day, with a high of 96 and heat indices in the upper 90s in the metro. It potentially may have higher humidity levels than Monday.

A cool front will also come through Tuesday, bringing with it a slight chance for isolated showers and storms in east-central Minnesota.

Despite a possible break on Wednesday, the 90s are expected to return on Thursday.
