Colombo, August 21 (NewsWire) – A new pre-paid card system for buses has been introduced for the benefit of the public by the Minister of Transportation Bandula Gunawardena.
The pre-paid bus card system has been first introduced at the Makumbura Multimodal Center – Kottawa for buses plying on the Southern Expressway up to Galle.

The public will be able to use the bus card, similar to a debit card by pre-paying the amount required for their travel.
The bus card is currently available only at the People’s bank under a secure payment gateway.
The Transportation Ministry hopes to implement the bus card system islandwide in the near future as a solution to issues faced in public transportation in the country.
Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that the ministry also hopes to introduce a similar card system for train services as well.
