Former school teacher Chris Dawson will learn today whether he will be jailed for the murder of his wife Lynette.

The 74-year-old is making his way to Sydney from his home on Queensland's Sunshine Coast where he spent the weekend with family.

On Tuesday he will either be convicted or cleared of killing his wife Lynette, who vanished from their home at Bayview on Sydney's Northern Beaches in 1982.

Dawson is accused of killing the mother-of-two so he could move on with their teenage babysitter but he claims Lynette walked out after their marriage had broken down.

The former Newtown Jets rugby league player faced a marathon two-month trial before Justice Ian Harrison.

Dozens of witnesses, including Chris' twin brother Paul, Lynette's brother and former detectives were called to give evidence.

The verdict will be handed down from 10am today.
