For many years, Apple has been partnering with famous filmmakers to make short films that are shot using iPhones to showcase camera capabilities. In 2021, Samsung also stepped into the game and partnered with British filmmaker Joe Wright to make a short film using the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Now, the company has made a similar partnership with Oscar-winning filmmaker, Charlie Kaufman, to make a short film that was shot using the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The latest short film from Charlie Kaufman, who is famous for movies like Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, is called Jackals & Fireflies. It was shot completely with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Samsung has released a trailer for the upcoming short film on YouTube, and if you had seen it without knowing that it was shot on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, you wouldn’t have made out that it was recorded using a smartphone. Yes, that’s how good it looks.
Jackals & Fireflies is a short film about a woman who is going through a change in her life. The trailer shows her in various scenes talking about a person, with piano music playing in the background. Most of the scenes in the trailer were shot in dark environments, and despite the lack of good lighting, the scenes look terrific. However, if you look closely, you will find some scenes to have slight noise. But overall, the short film looks exceptionally good for one that has been recorded with a smartphone.
Currently, there’s no information on the release date of Jackals & Fireflies, but it is very likely that Samsung might release it during the launch of the Galaxy S23 to showcase how capable its smartphones are when it comes to imaging.
