Multitalented singer and songwriter, CKay, has set a new record with his second album ‘CKay the First’, as the most streamed project by an African artiste in Spotify history.

The record-breaking album, released in August 2019 has garnered over 661 million streams surpassing Burna Boy’s ‘African Giant’ which was at 660.9 million streams on Spotify. 

Chukwuka ‘CKay’ Ekweani, took to his Twitter page to announce the milestone, thanking his fans for their unwavering support. “Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen. Big announcement soon”, he said. 

The 8-track album, which features collaborations with top African artists such as DJ Lambo, BOJ, Blaqbonez, and Barry Jhay, has received critical acclaim since its release. It showcases CKay’s production prowess and unique sound, which is a blend of Nigerian Pop music and R&B.

CKay has been a rising star in the African music industry, and his music has been gaining international recognition. In 2020, his hit single, ‘Love Nwantiti,’ went viral on TikTok and became a global sensation, earning him a spot on the Billboard Global 200 chart and Gold and Platinum certifications in over seven countries. 

CKay ft Joeboy & Kuami Eugene’s ‘Love Nwantiti Remix’ was also the most streamed song by a Nigerian artiste on YouTube with 354,728,238 views according to turntable charts, before it was overtaken by Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ on January 30, 2023. 

The 27-year-old artist has been described as one of the most talented and versatile artists in Africa, and his success on Spotify is a testament to his hard work and dedication to his craft. His record-breaking achievement on the platform has also positioned him as a trailblazer in the African music industry.
