Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has accused some governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of betraying the agreement to produce a southern presidency in 2023.
Wike stated that all the southern governors had agreed that power must return to the south in 2023 irrespective of their political affiliations but some PDP governors refused to honour the agreement.
The Rivers State Governor added that it was based on the agreement that he contested the PDP presidential primary last year but unfortunately some PDP governors acted otherwise.
He however praised the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors for adhering to the resolutions reached by southern Governors during meetings in Asaba, Lagos, and Enugu.
The Governor spoke during the Rivers State student community town hall meeting/interactive session at the Obi Wali International Conference centre, Port Harcourt.
He said: “We agreed in Southern Nigeria, all of us as governors, we agreed, we said it doesn’t matter the party you belong to, whether you are in no party, whether you are in a party, whether you are in any organisation, power must come to the south. But we in PDP betrayed ourselves.”
Wike added that he has no issues with anyone who voted for any of the two major presidential candidates from the south (Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi) in the February 25 presidential election.
According to him, the most important thing is for a southerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
“What matters most is that presidential power will be shifting from the north to the south of Nigeria at the end of President Buhari’s tenure”, he said.
