Since 2006, MTN Foundation has partnered with the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) School of Music to train over 400 musical talents, by providing scholarships worth ₦250,000 to cover their tuition, books, and transportation for two years at MUSON.
The MTN Foundation in partnership with the MUSON recently hosted the 16th edition of the MTN-MUSON graduation ceremony at the MUSON Centre Onikan Lagos. This year, 29 outstanding music scholars graduated, after an impactful two-year music programme.
Meet the MTN MUSON Class of 2023:
OKORO CHINONSO EMMANUEL
This is OKORO CHINONSO EMMANUEL, he is an alto saxophone major. He says his Favorite moment during the two-year diploma course was his First-year Recital, as that was the first time he would be playing something different from what he was used to, and have a huge crowd watch him perform.
One major lesson he learnt from the program is to keep improving his art through regular practice.
BLESSING THOMAS
This is BLESSING THOMAS, she is a voice major. She says her most memorable moment were all her classes with her voice major teacher (Princess Banke).
One of her major takeaways from the program is that. Hard work and consistency are key to excellence. According to Blessing “there is enough room for every musician, just find what is right for you and follow it passionately”.
IKPE NNAMDI VICTOR
This is IKPE NNAMDI VICTOR, he is a voice major. His most memorable moment were all his voice major classes during his diploma course at the MUSON School of Music.
He has learnt to always take his time to learn because every process is a journey.
DAVID ESOSA ABAYOMI JACKSON
This is DAVID ESOSA ABAYOMI JACKSON, he is a piano major. His favourite moments during the diploma course were his year one and year two recitals.
A major takeaway from the program for him is that there is no goal that he cannot achieve, providing he is consistent, determined, focused and diligent.
ABISOLA EDUN
This is ABISOLA EDUN, She is a voice major. Her favourite moment was every time she got to perform on stage during the diploma course.
In the two years of the diploma program, she has learnt to never imitate anyone and always be herself, no matter the situation or circumstance.
OLAITAN ISRAEL
This is OLAITAN ISRAEL, he is a percussion major. His favourite moment during the program was when his second-year recital because he was congratulated by everyone which made him feel good.
One major lesson for Israel from the diploma course was the importance of being consistent and always being prepared.
EMMANUEL SMITH EDET
This is EMMANUEL SMITH EDET, he is a trumpet major. His favourite moments during the diploma course were all his trumpet major classes and band practice.
In the two years of the diploma course, Emmanuel has learnt how to adapt to situations, environments, and people. He also learnt how to be productive with little things, and how to bring out the best in the people around him.
ALEBIOWU AYOMIDE OLUWATOBILOBA
This is ALEBIOWU AYOMIDE OLUWATOBILOBA, she is a clarinet major. Her favourite moments were all the opera productions during the two-year diploma course.
In the two years of the program, Ayomide has learnt to be herself and to do whatever makes her happy.
POPOOLA PETER DAMILARE
This is POPOOLA PETER DAMILARE, he is a flute major. His favourite moment was during his final year recital.
According to Peter, “Knowledge is key, technique is learnt but practice brings perfection”.
VICTOR EZE
This is VICTOR EZE, he is a piano major. His favourite moment during the diploma course was playing at his recital as a solo instrumentalist and for his colleagues at their recitals. He loved the experience as it challenged him to improve his skill in accompanying other singers and instrumentalists.
He has learnt to stay true to himself and be focused on the goal at hand.
NWUKOR TOBECHI JULIET
This is NWUKOR TOBECHI JULIET, she is a voice major. Her best moments were her first opera performance (Cavilleria Rusticana) and also her first year recital.
In the two years of her diploma course, Juliet has learnt that efficient practice will always make one better.
Chukwuka Chidiebube Miracle
This is CHUKWUKA CHIDIEBUBE MIRACLE, he is a voice major. His favourite moment during the diploma course was his first-year recital.
One of his major lessons from the program is that dealing with people requires one’s ability to understand and also communicate effectively with them.
TOBI TAIWO
This is TOBI TAIWO, he is a voice major. His favourite moments were all the recitals during the programme, and playing in the orchestra. He has learnt in the two years to give his all to whatever he does.
James Chimamkpa Nwakpa
This is JAMES CHIMAMKPA NWAKPA, he is a piano major. His favourite moments during the program were his recital performances. He has learnt that he can achieve anything he wants to.
RAYMOND ANOSIKE WISDOM
This is RAYMOND ANOSIKE WISDOM, he is a voice major. His favourite moment were his voice major class and when he got to play a major role in the MUSON yearly opera production.
In the course of the diploma course, Raymond has learnt to be patient with his growth and development, and trust the process.
OLUWAROTIMI SAMUEL
This is OLUWAROTIMI SAMUEL, he is a voice major. His most memorable moment during the diploma course at MUSON, were all the school orchestra rehearsals. It was always soothing and thought-provoking for him to watch the rehearsals.
According to Oluwarotimi, “people will always demand so much from you even when they can’t give it! Walk at your own diligent pace”
DEBORAH OBOH
This is DEBORAH OBOH, she is a voice major. Her most memorable moment during the diploma course at MUSON were all the rehearsals and performances. She enjoyed the entire learning experience with her teachers and colleagues.
Deborah has learnt that passion and determination, combined with diligent effort, hold the key to achieving excellence.
ISAAC SULAIMON ADEBAYO
This is ISAAC SULAIMON ADEBAYO, he is a trumpet major. His most memorable moment during the diploma course at MUSON was his final year recitals.
Isaac has learnt the importance of discipline and how to apply it in improving her craft.
ADEBANJO MOYOSORE CLINTON
This is ADEBANJO MOYOSORE CLINTON, he is a violin major. His most memorable moment during the diploma course at MUSON were the opera and orchestra performances. His key lesson from the program is that resilience pays.
BENEDICT PETER
This is BENEDICT PETER, he is an organ major. His most memorable moment during the diploma course at MUSON was preparations towards his final recital and the recital itself.
His major lesson from the two year program is that self-belief is the biggest asset of a musician.
OTTAH CHUKWUEMEKA ELISHA
This is OTTAH CHUKWUEMEKA ELISHA, he is a violin major. His most memorable moment during his diploma course at MUSON was his performance during his final year recital.
He has learnt that integrity, hard work and consistency are all that is needed to excel as a violinist.
SUNDAY VICTOR
This is SUNDAY VICTOR, she is a piano major. Her favourite moment was during his second year recital, which he says was a successful and remarkable milestone for him.
One key lesson Victor has taken from the program is to continually meet up to every standard and present his art professionally.
JOHN IDONGESIT CLEMENT
This is JOHN IDONGESIT CLEMENT, he is a saxophone major. His most memorable moment during the diploma course at MUSON was Playing in the school band.
One major lesson John has learnt from the program is the importance patience.
JAMES EZEKIEL OJORE
This is JAMES EZEKIEL OJORE, he is a piano major. His favourite moment was his major classes with his piano teachers, and he had the chance to hear them share their views and experience on the ‘Techniques of playing the piano Playing, How to have effective Practice in a short time and Piano Performance’.
According to James, the diploma program has taught him discipline, and effective time management for achieving results.
FASAN FUNMILAYO FLORA
This is FASAN FUNMILAYO FLORA, she is a voice major. Her favourite moment was performing the song ‘Kumnandi’ with her colleagues during the graduation concert. She enjoyed every moment from the rehearsals to the the final performance.
As a MUSON scholar, Flora has learnt that a combination of hard work, compassion,, consistent efforts, perseverance, and a strong sense of confidence are the essential ingredients for achieving success as a professional singer.
ADENIYI MATTHEW
This is ADENIYI MATTHEW, he is a trumpet major. His favourite moment during the MUSON diploma course was everytime he played in the school band.
One major lesson he has gotten in the two-years is that with more knowledge comes higher expectations, and he won’t stop reaching for more!
ONITIJU TOLUWABORI
This is ONITIJU TOLUWABORI, he is a violin major. His favourite moments during the MUSON diploma course were playing in the school orchestra and working with the Muson orchestra directed by Micheal Wolhard.
As a MUSON scholar, Toluwabori has learnt that once there’s a will, there’s always a way!
ILECHUKWU VICTORY AMARACHUKWU
This is ILECHUKWU VICTORY AMARACHUKWU, she is a voice major. Her favourite moments during the MUSON diploma course were all her recitals and singing in the school opera.
Victory has learnt that she is more than enough to achieve anything she sets out to do.
NDUE NDIFEREKE INYANG
This is NDUE NDIFEREKE INYANG, he is a piano major. His favourite moments during the MUSON diploma course were all the recitals and his piano major classes with his instructors.
One major lesson he has gotten from the training is the ability to unlearn, as he had to change his previous ideologies and approach to music.
