Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis is reportedly calm over the contract situation of Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen’s current contract with Napoli will expire on June 30, 2025, but the Italian reigning champions are pushing to extend the contract this summer.

Their quest to extend his contract was because of the interest top European clubs had in the 24-year-old Nigerian striker earlier in the summer.

Recall that Victor Osimhen scored 26 league goals and provided five assists in 32 league games last season which helped Napoli to win their first Scudetto in 33 years.

This performance made Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United to have interest in him this summer. However, they were all frustrated out of the race due to the outrageous price tag (over €160 million), that the Napoli president slammed on him.

When the craze for Osimhen was high, Napoli looked desperate to renew his deal. They have reportedly prepared a €10 million per season deal for the Nigerian with a €150 million release clause, but negotiations have continued to linger on.

A report by the Italian newspaper Corriere del Mezzogiorno confirmed that the Napoli president is not in a hurry to complete the deal.

Also, Victor Osimhen has left the Napoli president to make the final decision over the contract extension. After scoring two goals in Napoli’s 3-1 win in the club’s Serie A opener against Frosinone on August 19, Osimhen confirmed that negotiations are still ongoing.

“The president is the boss. As the transfer window closes, we’ll see what happens because we’re still in discussions”, Osimhen said.

“For now, I am a Napoli player, which is the most important thing. I will give my heart and soul to this team as I’ve always done in the past. We’ll see what happens.”

Napoli’s next league game is against Sassuolo at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona at 19:45 on Sunday, August 27.
