‘Leave now’: Two Queensland bushfires burning at emergency level

There are emergency warnings for two bushfires in Queensland with residents ordered to evacuate immediately, as multiple other blazes burn across the state.

Residents in a number of rural towns in the Darling Downs region have been told to leave their homes due to a large fast-moving fire.

The current warning area is for properties between Chinchilla Tara Road, Timothy Road, Weitzels Road, Tara Kogan Road, Spinifex Road, in Tara, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) said.

A second bushfire at Cypress Gardens and Millmerran Downs has also just been upgraded to emergency level.

People in the vicinity of Kakadu Avenue, Gore Highway, Violet Road and Wombinebong Drive have been instructed to leave immediately.

The fast-moving fire is burning near Primrose Drive, and is expected to impact Waratah Drive very soon, QFES said.

There are bushfires burning across Queensland with multiple blazes at emergency level.

Two more fires at nearby Captains Mountain and Milmerran Woods are at watch and act level with locals told to prepare to leave.

Another two blazes – one in Hendon, Upper Wheatvale and Bony Mountain – and another in Stewart Road at Wolvi – are both at watch and act level.

There are multiple other fires burning across the state at advice level.

A total fire ban in the state's north has also been extended for a week.

It comes after QFES extended a local fire ban for Far Northern Region residents for a further seven days.

This is in place for residents in the Aurukun, Cairns, Cook, Douglas, Hope Vale, Kowanyama, Lockhart River, Mapoon, Napranum, Northern Peninsula Area, Pormpuraaw, Torres, Torres Strait, Weipa, Wujal Wujal, Yarrabah, Cassowary Coast, Mareeba, Tablelands, Croydon and Etheridge Local Government Areas.

It is expected to remain in place until midnight on Monday, October 30.
