Nigeria’s Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has said that no politician’s political ambition is worth shedding the blood of any Nigerian citizen.
Jonathan made this known in an exclusive interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday, in view of the off-cycle gubernatorial election, set to hold in three states; Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi State.
He also called on the people of these states to be of good conduct to avoid crisis and security issues in the state and the nation at large.
“Nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian and we must know that. If you mean well for your people and you want to govern them, you will not recruit thugs to kill them. You cannot kill and govern the graves.
“We call on all the people from these three states; Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo State, to conduct themselves in a way that will not bring security issues to the states and the nation. We as politicians and indeed those who follow us know that misconduct during elections could result to crisis and for us, the politicians, we must not encourage criminality in our electoral processes.” he said
The former president also urged every electoral stakeholder to ensure that the processes are credible and in line with best global practices.
“The political recruitment process is critical in the growth of the nation. the recruitment process must be clean especially through the electoral processes and for that, every stakeholder must play its role to ensure that the process is credible and would bring the best for us.
“So, we use this unique opportunity to call the electoral management body, the security agencies and other stakeholders to do that jobs professionally and make sure that elections in these three states are done in line with our laws and in line with global best practices”
