A driver has been charged with manslaughter over the drowning death of a five-year-old boy in floodwaters in the NSW Central West.
Emergency services were called to Tullamore, about 100 kilometres south-west of Dubbo, in September last year after a Toyota Hilux was swept off The McGrane Way and into the water.
Police said the male driver, a woman and two children were able to escape but a five-year-old boy was trapped and died.
The four who escaped weren't found until about two hours later, when a second car was swept away and its occupants escaped and spotted them still clinging to trees.
They were rescued by boat and taken to hospital in Dubbo.
Police searched the area the following day and found the Hilux with the five-year-old's body still inside.
On Thursday, police charged the Hilux driver, a 38-year-old man, with manslaughter, dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
He was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on January 18.
