An Australia Post employee has come under fire after he was filmed hurling delivery boxes outside a retail store in Sydney.

The video, believed to have been filmed in Manly, shows the postie attempting to stack several boxes onto a moving trolley.

After unsuccessfully loading the trolley, he then appears to throw four boxes onto the ground in a fit of frustration.

The vision has divided users on social media, with some labelling the postie's behaviour as "disrespectful".

Others jumped to his defence, arguing he was probably having "a rough day".

Australia Post confirmed with 9news.com.au it is investigating the incident.

"Australia Post has strict protocols in place for team members when delivering parcels and these actions clearly do not align with the high standards we expect," a spokesperson said.

"The delivery driver has been identified and we will conduct a full investigation.

"We encourage any customers experiencing delivery issues to get in touch with us directly by calling 13 POST (13 7678)."
