Two tradies have rescued an elderly man who became trapped in his car while it was being washed away by floodwaters in Queensland's Moreton Bay region.

Jack Cooper and his neighbour Adam Cheney were the first to find the elderly man who was up to his chest in floodwater after a rain bomb hit the town of Beachmere on Tuesday.

"We just took a dog for a walk and had a look to see if the bank was about to break, to see how much water was going to come," Cheney told 9News.

"We looked down the end and there was a car hanging off the bank going into the spoon drain."

The pair called emergency services and for as many people close by to come and help.

"We yelled out to everyone on the street everyone came with kayaks, paddleboards," Cheney said.

"There was probably about six of us at one point."

A neighbour launched a boat and was quickly joined by emergency services, who ferried the man to safety.

"He was pretty shaken up by the time we opened up the door and pulled him into the kayak," Cooper said.

Cooper said he only worried about his safety a little bit.

"(If) there's someone else more in danger and I'd rather him go to his family at the end of the night," he said.

The elderly man was luckily uninjured and driven home by ambulance crews.

"I'd like to hear something from him… catch up for a beer," Cooper said.

About 250mm to 300mm of rain fell across a broad area of the North Brisbane and Moreton Bay council areas on Tuesday.

Beachmere residents are expecting the town to take at least a week to dry out, as the area was still flooded yesterday.
