A shopping centre in Queensland has issued an apology after a young woman was allegedly kicked out by a security guard because of her outfit.

Madison Green, 20, was grocery shopping for her grandmother at Dalby Shoppingworld in the Western Downs region when she was approached by a security guard and asked to leave.

Speaking to 9News, Green claimed the guard followed her and threatened to ban her from the centre due to the fact her outfit revealed her midriff.

The ordeal was caught on camera, with the guard telling her “any shirt that covers your whole stomach” because “that’s the law”.

“What’s your issue?” she can be heard saying in the vision.

“I can see your stomach,” the security guard replies.

“But how come there’s a store in here that sells clothing like this but I can’t wear it in here?” she asks.

Green told 9News the guard continued to follow her into a supermarket.

“It was quite intimidating, I was getting more and more annoyed,” she said.

In the vision, Green points to another woman arguing she is wearing a sports top with her torso exposed.

“So I can’t wear a top but this lady can?” she asks.

“I saw her after I saw you and you’re a smart a– so now you can leave,” the security guard replies.

Shaken by the encounter, Green raised the incident with centre management.

“I’m a woman and I know for a fact I’m allowed to wear these things,” she said.

“It’s 2024, I don’t see any issue with it whatsoever.”

A Dalby Shoppingworld spokesperson told 9News it was aware of the incident and confirmed that Green was not breaking any centre rules at the time.

“Centre management has apologised to the patron and has been in discussion with the contracted security company and requested that they review their procedures to make sure their staff have appropriate training,” the spokesperson said.

“This particular security officer involved won’t be assigned to Dalby Shoppingworld in future.”
