The man who was allegedly left for dead in a suspected early-morning targeted attack on an Adelaide road has been identified as 21-year-old William Holdback.
Holdback, who is from Flinders Park, was found unresponsive on Barrpowell Street in the nearby suburb of Welland just after 1.30am today and was unable to be saved by witnesses or emergency services.
CCTV has shown him walking with a skateboard in hand down Musgrave Avenue before a dark-coloured sedan pulled up.

He spoke to those inside the car before someone got out and chased him onto Barrpowell Street where, despite his efforts to skate away, he was allegedly stabbed.
The sedan then returned, with the driver allegedly picking up the suspected killer and fleeing the scene while Holdback was left dead on the road.
Detective Superintendent Des Bray said Holdback was believed to have known his alleged killers and most likely arranged to meet them for what appeared to be a "clandestine meeting".
"These people are pathetic, you know, they've taken a young man's life and I think when we get to the bottom of it, it will be just a senseless murder for something trivial," he said at a press conference today.

Residents at homes nearby have told 9News a man, believed to be Holdback, had approached them yesterday and said he was looking for someone who had threatened to stab him a few weeks ago.
"Makes me feel a bit uneasy when you don't really know what's going on … it's a bit of a sketchy area so you never feel really safe," one local said.
Bray said a motive had not yet been established but expected to know more soon.
He assured the public that they would hold the alleged offender responsible.
"The majority of murders are solved in this state," he said.

Police have spent the day combing through the scene and bagging evidence, including Holdback's skateboard.
Barrpowell Street and Musgrave Avenue, which were earlier closed, have since reopened.
