The heartbroken partner of a woman killed in a three-vehicle crash in Brisbane has revealed he had plans to propose to her later this year.
Emma McLean, a 23-year-old from South Australia, and Lily Galbraith, a 24-year-old from the Northern Territory, were driving on the Legacy Way Tunnel at Mount Coot-tha on Wednesday when they were hit from behind.
Galbraith was one of two killed in the crash, while McLean is left recovering in hospital.
Galbraith, who worked as an intensive care nurse at Flinders Private Hospital, had been in Brisbane with her best friend for a wedding.
Her boyfriend, Blayde Brummelhuis, revealed he was thinking about proposing later this year.
“Everything I’m trying to do, what Lily would’ve wanted me and everyone to do, and that’s look out for everyone else,” he exclusively told 9News.
Brummelhuis said he wanted answers as to why and how former police officer Bruce Daley, who also died in the crash, had crashed into their car, causing them to hit a small truck.
“I just didn’t believe it, I know no one believed it. I just couldn’t stop thinking about all the stuff we did together and praying it was gonna be OK,” he said.
A funeral will be held for Galbraith in her home city of Darwin. 9News understands there will also be a memorial service in Adelaide.
“She lived in five states and there’s so many people that she managed to touch their hearts,” Brummelhuis said.
McLean remains in an induced coma in Brisbane, with her family and fiance by her side.
A GoFundMe page was also set up to support her and what her doctors say will be a “marathon recovery”.
