Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA), Africa’s biggest award night, which recognises filmmakers, actors, and technicians for their success and contribution to the development of the continent’s film and television industry, was held at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

With a total of 27 categories and over 150 nominations, the 10th edition of the award had a pool of some of Africa’s best films in the last 12 months. From Over The Bridge, which had 12 nominations and earned Abisola Omolade Best Art Direction, to Breath Of Life with 11 nominations, but took home the highest award of the night with six wins, the award paid due homage to the immense creativity of some of the continent’s best movies.

Wale Ojo, who embodied his role as Old Timi in the critically acclaimed movie, Breath of Life, bagged Best Lead Actor, defeating actors in the category, including Stan Nze (Afamefuna), Marc Zinga (Omen), Gideon Okeke (Egun), David Ezekiel (Blood Vessel), Richard Mofe-Damijo (The Black Book), Lateef Adedimeji (Jagun Jagun – The Warrior), and Gabriel Afolayan (This is Lagos).

Also, Kehinde Bankole defeated Funke Akindele, Adaobi Dibor, Segilola Ogidan, among others, to win Best Lead Actress for her role in the movie Adire.

Popular comedian Layi Wasabi secured his first AMVCA win in the Best Digital Content Creator category, which had the likes of Adebola ‘Lizzy Jay’ Adeyela, Maryam Apaokagi-Greene, among others, as contenders.
