When the AMVCA 10 nominations were announced, one actor whom many, including critics, believed should have gotten a nomination for his role in ‘Breath of Life’ was Chimezie Imo. His win as Trailblazer of the Year at the AMVCAs was a testament that the academy was indeed paying attention to his brilliance in the past year.

In an exclusive interview with Netng, the overwhelmed movie star disclosed that getting the Trailblazer award was surreal. “It’s great to feel seen, and that’s what I feel right now. It’s been a while and I feel like I’m being recognised for the gift that God has given me. I’m so grateful,” he added.

At the 2023 AMVCAs, he was nominated for the Best Actor in a Leading Role category for his role in Orimz’s ‘Choke.’ A year later, he won the Trailblazer Award, a special award given to an actor for outstanding achievement in the previous year.

In the past year, he has not only given a highly acclaimed performance in ‘Breath of Life,’ but he has also gone on to feature in other highly acclaimed films such as Sista, The Trade, and Over The Bridge.

Speaking to Derin Aderinnokun, one of the producers of Breath of Life, he attested to the fact that the actors all brought their A-game into telling the Breath of Life story and their awards at the AMVCAs are a testament.

“Everyone worked super hard on this. They put in their all. We cast everyone from auditions. Chimezie, we met for the first time, Genoveva as well, even though we had seen her in Blood Sisters. Everybody brought their A game in, they really put a lot of effort into it, I’m so happy,” he told Netng.

Executively produced by BB Sasore and Derin Adeyokunnu, Breath of Life tells the story of a man, Timi (Wale Ojo), struggling with a loss of purpose after a life-changing experience only to encounter a young man, Elijah (Chimezie Imo), who changes the course of his life. The faith-based drama won five awards at the tenth edition of the AMVCAs.
