She disclosed this in an interview with Billboard News as she shared behind-the-scenes information on her latest collaboration with Giveon.

“I felt like I wasn’t ready. So it was a no brainer for this album. When I heard Giveon’s verse, I was emotional and felt this is a complete record. I felt so happy that I waited,” she said.

‘Last Heartbreak Song’ produced by Louddaaa, with visuals by Bobby Hanaford has amassed over 1.5 million streams across digital platforms since its release on May 30, 2024.

With ‘Last Heartbreak Song’ proving to be one of the fan favourite tracks off the album, Ayra Starr’s album as a whole has been lauded by critics as one of the best projects of the year.

In the manner in which the album has received praise from critics, she has also broken multiple streaming records, with ‘The Year I Turned 21’ becoming the most streamed Nigerian album by a Nigerian female artiste globally.
