Dave Myers – one half of the Hairy Bikers – has been remembered with an enormous convoy of bikers making their way up the M6.
Blog Preston readers have been sharing the emotional moment packed motorway bridges said farewell to the TV presenter, biker, chef and artist.
He died in February this year after a well-documented two year battle with cancer.
From Charnock Richard services all the way up the motorway the Lancashire public turned out to say farewell and show their support for Si King and the biker community.
Up to 25,000 bikers are thought to have taken part in the tribute procession with Lancashire Police saying at one stage the rider out was an estimated 19-miles long.
The bikers – riding in convoy – were heading to Barrow to commemorate the life of Dave Myers in what has been badged as ‘Dave Day’. Myers had a strong link with Preston – having studied art at Preston Polytechnic in the 1970s and becoming an honorary fellow of the University of Central Lancashire in 2015.
Emma Millington said: “We were driving up the M6 and saw the crowds on the bridges, waving at all the traffic. It was nice to see.”
Andi Wallis said: “Really emotional to see all those people on the bridges waving and cheering today and of course, the fabulous biker community, so proud.”
Mary Helm said: “We were at the motorway bridge at Cuerdale. What a great accolade to a lovely man.”
