Who was Tamayo Perry?
Tamayo Perry rose to fame by starring in well-known productions such as 2002 Hollywood hit, Blue Crush, Hawaii Five-0, Lost and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
He also had a role in Charlie’s Angels 2 and a commercial for Nissan Xterra.
Tamayo was born in 1975 and raised in Oahu, Hawaii.
Away from acting, he described himself as a “devoted waterman” and a professional surfer.
He began surfing at the age of 12 and borrowed surfboards because he had no sponsors, according to The Encyclopedia of Surfing.
Tamayo was regarded one of the most prominent figures of Pipelines by the time he was 30.
Who is Tamayo Perry’s wife Emilia
Tamayo and his wife Emilia bonded over their love of water sports – with Emilia being a skilled bodyboarder.
The pair founded their business Oahu Surfing Experience in 2016.
They came up with the idea when Tamayo had a near-death experience while surfing.
He said: “A number of years ago while surfing Pipeline on the Extra Large size, I was involved in a freak accident that turned into a near-fatal experience.
“The incident happened all because of someone else’s lack of awareness.”
What happened to Tamayo Perry?
Tamayo passed away at the age of 49 on June 23, 2024.
It was announced that he was mauled to death in a suspected shark attack.
His body was discovered by local surfers with several bites off Malaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North shore.
He had been surfing off Goat Island, also known as Mokuauia, near Laie, Hawaii which is about 32 miles north of Honolulu.
He was found at 1pm before lifeguards took him to shore via jetski.
Emergency crews believed Tamayo may have suffered more than one possible shark bite.

Acting Ocean Safety Chief Kurt Lager said in a statement: “Tamayo Perry was a lifeguard loved by all, well-known on the North Shore, a professional surfer known worldwide around the world.
“Tamayo’s personality was infectious, and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.
“Our condolences go out to Tamayo’s family and to the entire lifeguard ohana. We’re asking for some privacy for his family at this time.”
Perry’s friend, Jason Bitzer, shared a tribute on Facebook, writing, “The things we have seen! My brother in Christ I love you brah! Tamayo, I won’t get over this until I see you in heaven.

“Tamayo Perry you weren’t my friend you were my brother, the pain we’re collectively feeling is immense.”
While Mayor Rick Blangiardi called his death a “tragic loss”, describing the actor as a highly respected “legendary waterman”.
He said: “It’s just really hard to imagine, so we just want to pay our respects to our guys.
“I hope everyone wishes the family the best honors and respects the situation.”
