An image has been released of a man police hope could be a witness in their investigation into two grenades found in Fulwood.

Police wish to speak with the man pictured in connection with the incident but have stressed that he is being treated only as a witness and is not suspected of any wrongdoing.

Two grenades were found, properties evacuated and a cordon established after two grenade-like devices were found on Watling Street Road in Fulwood on 18 June.

Controlled explosions were carried out – one at the scene and one in a remote location – with one of the devices found to have been a ‘viable explosive device’.

Police have said that counter terrorism police are not involved in the investigation and that the incident is believed to be isolated, with no risk to the general public.

A spokesperson for police said: “We want to make it clear that he is being treated solely as a witness, is not in any trouble with us, and we do not believe he had any involvement in the incident at this time.

“Our dedicated inquiry team continue to investigate the incident, and are asking you, the public, to check any dashcam, CCTV and mobile phone footage to see if they captured anything in the conservation area around Watling Street Road between midnight and 12:30am on Tuesday, 18th June.

“They are now also asking you to look at the below still, and to contact us if you recognise the witness in it. We know that this isn’t of the highest quality, but we are hoping that someone may be able to recognise the person in it.”

If you saw anything unusual or have information that could assist the police with their investigation, you can call 101 quoting log 0556 of 18th June 2024.
